🌻 INTRODUCTION - 1 🌻

1. A.B. – Light on the Path is one of a number of different occult treatises which are in the care of the great Teachers and are used in the instruction of disciples.

It is a part of The Book of the Golden Precepts, which contains many treatises which were written in different ages of the world, but have one characteristic in common, that they contain occult truth, and have therefore to be studied in a different way from ordinary books.

The understanding of these treatises depends upon the capacity of the reader, and when any one of them is published to the world only distorted views of its teaching will be acquired, if it is taken literally.

2. Definitely intended for the quickening of the evolution of those who are on the Path, this book puts forward ideals which people of the world are rarely prepared to accept. Only as far as a man is able and willing to live the teaching, will he be able to understand it.

If he does not practise it, it will remain a sealed book to him. Any effort to live it will throw light upon it; but if the reader makes no effort, he will not only gain very little, but he will turn against the book and say that it is useless.

3. This treatise falls naturally into certain divisions. It was given to the Western world by the Master Hilarion, one of the great Teachers belonging to the White Lodge – a Master who played a great part in the Gnostic and Neoplatonic movements, one of the great persons who made attempts to keep Christianity alive. His incarnations have run very much in Greece and Rome, and He takes special interest in guiding the evolution of the Western world.

He obtained the book as we have it, without the notes, from the Venetian Master, one of the greater Teachers whom H.P.B. spoke of as Chohans.

4. Fifteen of the short rules that you find in the first part of this book, and fifteen in the second part, are exceedingly old, and were written in the most ancient Sanskrit.

To these short sentences which are used as a basis for the instruction of the disciple, the Chohan added other sentences, which now form part of the book, and are always to be read along with them, to supply complementary ideas without which the reader might be led astray. All the rules in both parts of the book, except the thirty short aphorisms, were written by the Chohan who gave it to the Master Hilarion.

The following table shows the fifteen short rules in Part I as they existed in the exceedingly ancient manuscript; the number at the beginning of each is the original one, but the number at the end is that which appears in the modern book.

1. Kill out ambition.

2. Kill out desire of life.

3. Kill out desire of comfort.

4. Kill out all sense of separateness.

5. Kill out desire of sensation.

6. Kill out the hunger for growth.

7. Desire only that which is within you.

8. Desire only that which is beyond you.

9. Desire only that which is unattainable.

10. Desire power ardently.

11. Desire peace fervently.

12. Desire possessions above all.

13. Seek out the way.

14. Seek the way by retreating within.

15. Seek the way by advancing boldly without.

67. Little by little, the Light illumined what had once been the domain of the darkness, whose puzzlingly restless and chaotic thoughts were still letting themselves be felt as blustery drafts. 

One by one they attacked the tiny tongues of Fire, releasing their venomous sting of doubt and zealous distrust of his healing life-creating force. Still, the wee fire continued to glimmer gently, despite the dense drops of poison falling into it. The Light lived. 

68. The struggle had moved from an external to an internal plane, taking on forms more and more subtle and concealed. 

Many servants of the darkness went about their business surreptitiously, masked by the guise of “light.” It was still a challenge to distinguish the false reflection from the true. Intellectual reasoning was useless. It was the Heart that possessed the highest gift of discernment, and only it could help.

69. People began to listen ever more keenly to the Heart, which was now drawing more attention than the brain. 

Many began to listen eagerly and attentively to the words of the Beacons of the Fiery World, proclaiming that the future belonged to the Heart, for it was pure. Yes, the Heart was incapable of lying or pretence; it had no feelings of hatred, revenge, greed, and all the other ills harboured by the human mind. 

It knew only Love, and that pulsating organ could love like none other... While the mind had been defiled with dark thoughts, the Heart was utterly impervious to evil. To the Heart belonged the Future, while the mind was bogged down in the past. People hearkened to its Call...

70. The Gods sensed the readiness of human Hearts to receive New Currents. And then they set to work, rotating the Wheel in the New Rhythm of the outpouring currents of Sacred Love.

64. People were bearing the Cross of Renewal. They took on the appearance of a chain of creatures, stretched out along all the roads of the Earth. 

Some had already walked the whole path, bearing on their shoulders the disproportionately heavy Cross of Repentance for human sins. Others were trying to tear that excessive weight off the toilers’ shoulders and replace it with their own load.

Among them were even those who were not searching for anybody in particular — they simply cast away their own burden, and this was immediately picked up 

by the darkness.

Such seekers of an easy life quickly found themselves bound with coarse ropes to the darkness’ own spheres. Hence, anyone who had dropped the load of Light entrusted to them now belonged to the kingdom of darkness.

They themselves had made the Choice, having broken off the Path of Ascent, and were now sliding down along the line of descent. 

65. Those who had managed to reach the Spheres of Fire with their heavy burden were now able to drop it into the life-giving Flame, which burnt away everything that had been superimposed by the darkness. And the bright Fiery Cross was presented to whoever was prepared to renew their commitment to the Quest. 

They were bearing the Karma of Love... Such people had already attracted the special attention of the watchful eye of the Gods, and were already considered to be Messengers of Heaven, Ambassadors of the World of Light.

66. The Heavenly Host of Love had intermingled among earthlings. The two had merged together and could no longer be distinguished from each other by outward signs. The main difference was internal: they were Bearers of Love, with the aim of giving her away. 

The world no longer greeted them with its erstwhile hostility. The smoky bonfires of mock trials had died out long ago. Deprived of their lavish nourishment, the lofty tongues of flame had disappeared. 

But not so easy to tame were the human tongues: they burnt more painfully than the sting of any incandescent heat... But the Beacons were moving toward them with the tremendous Burden of Heavenly Love.

61. Time was passing. Rapidly gaining speed, it pushed urgently forward. With each new turn, Time was leading earthlings on a new Spiral of Ascent. Human Hearts were already capable of peering into the Future. 

And the Future reached out to them, drawing them ever closer to itself. Anxiously looking back, human beings feared the return of the past. Their Hearts recognized those who were trying to ensnare them in the thoughtlessness of bygone ages.

62. Solar activity was starting to approach the limits of the possible. Glowing white-hot from the new currents, the Sun was releasing from his Fiery-White Core a sheaf of rays, which swiftly disappeared from view, thrusting themselves into the bowels of Earth. 

The Sun was knocking at the Earth’s Heart, calling upon it to let in a sheaf of Fires of the New Sound. The Earth opened up.

63. Now the Earth was being enveloped by a Light hitherto unseen. She was once again renewing herself, permeating all spheres of Life with the stamp of newness. Once again earthly shapes were changing, mainly in the realm of Colour... 

Nature was attempting to heal the wounds that had been inflicted on her by humanity, and to cover her gaping black holes with luxuriant blossoms.

All living things refused to clothe themselves in old dark, gloomy colours. 

As before, the darkness was threatening to grind everything into dust and to cover the fragments of the planet with a layer of thick black-grey ash.

🌻 The Final Battle - 6 🌻

59. Yet another wave of Light, now with even greater force, hit right at the root of the darkness’ foundations, exposing the human situation in all its horror. Many had been blinded by the Bright Light and could no longer discern the false brilliance of earthly treasures. 

The material world, with its innumerable perishable trinkets, no longer held any attraction. Losing sight of earthly things, the Eye opened up to the Heavenly Realm — thebboundless space of Imperishable Beauty, brimming with countless treasures, each with its own special charm. And all of them belonged to man. 

Thus perished another cell of the Matter-Gorgon, being transformed into the marvellous Light of Illumination. The beast had finally lost her last number and dissolved into the Fires of the Soul of Born- again Man... 

Thus the beast ultimately perished, but only after giving birth to the New Man who, casting off his human skin, would ascend as a shining Spirit and stand beside the Sons of God. 

60. The Gods had witnessed everything that was taking place in the world. With their ability to behold multiple images simultaneously, they succeeded in perceiving everything that was occurring in all the layers of the Earth, starting from her bowels right up to the innumerable spheres which stretch into the Infinite Ocean of Eternity. 

Humanity was uniting under the Banner of Light. It was resonating with the Fires of the Heart. 

But among them, the servants of darkness were darting to and for more furiously than ever, hunting for those who had maintained their spiteful stoniness of heart... But those who had arisen from the ashes were already ascending the radiant Stairs to the Stars. 

Above them shone more powerful Spirits, taking on the appearance of a single solar luminary. And their number was increasing constantly... 

The Gods had never known doubt and believed firmly in Humanity. It was with new confidence that they now began to turn the High Wheel of Eternity.
